Sample sale on pretty bridesmaid dresses.

I rarely feature other people's dresses on my blog. (I never do sponsored posts, but I sometimes include other designers if I think you'll find them interesting). But I just heard this on the girly grapevine and thought you might like to know...

A few of my real brides have gone to twobirds for their bridesmaid dresses, and I've always liked the results. Their simple styling seem to work well alongside a vintage wedding dress. Perhaps you already know about them? 

Well, they have a sample sale in Covent Garden on 19 & 20 November. If you're interested, here's everything you need to know...

We’re very excited to announce a two day sample sale of our multi-award winning dress. A range of styles, sizes and colours will be available with discounts of up to 40% off while stocks last.
Date: 19th & 20th November
Time: 10:30am - 8pm with the last entry at 7:15pm.
Location: twobirds Bridesmaid, 1st and 2nd floors, 79 Long Acre, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9NG
Do I need an appointment?No appointment necessary but there may be a queue at busy times to enter.
Is there an an entry fee?There will be a £2 entry fee per person which will be donated to The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation.
Which dresses will be available?The sample sale will be made up of a selection of our old shop samples which have been used, new dresses in discontinued colours, slightly damaged but perfectly wearable fabric and dresses in colours where we have reached the end of rolls of fabric. There may be multiples in some colours and we will have a range of colours available.
All dresses will be of wearable quality and some of them new. Please note that we will not have full details until two days before the sale of which dresses will be available but there will be a wide selection of colours and styles in the classic collection so it is well worth an early visit to grab a bargain. Please note that all sales are final.
Will there be a range of sizes available?Yes, there will be a mix of size A (UK4-16) and size B (UK18-24) dresses available in various lengths.
Will there be matching bandeaus?Matching bandeaus will be available in some colours on the day or for purchase for collection/delivery after.
Can my bridesmaids try the dresses on?There will not be a specific changing area but it will be possible to briefly try the dresses to check length and size.
Will you show us how to tie the dresses?The sample sale is likely to be very busy so we wont be able to accommodate individual styling. We will be available to advise on size/length as required.  There are video tutorials on our website for all the styles so you can have fun practising with your girls at home.
Can we attend a twobirds styling evening?Our styling evenings at always at capacity in the busy season and slots are therefore reserved for brides purchasing full price dresses.
Will there be any men’s accessories in the sample sale?We have a small range of men’s accessories at discounted rates and there will be swatches of other selected colours available which can be ordered with our standard lead-time of 6 weeks.
How can I pay?You can pay with cash or on a credit or debit card.  Please note that we cannot accept cheques.
Can I order over the phone?Because the dresses are samples, it’s preferable that you see them before purchasing but we can take some orders over the phone subject to the availability of the team and we will do our best to describe the condition of the dresses accurately.  During busy times it may not be possible to take phone orders.
So, get your favourite girls together and come and grab yourself a bargain!

Kathryn, in 1950s-style lace wedding dress.

Dear Reader,
You may remember an earlier glimpse of Kathryn…? Well, it's high time for a look at her super-cool Liverpool wedding to Greg…

As a successful make-up artist herself, Kathryn has a great sense of style and knew exactly what she wanted for her dress and for the day itself.

Kathryn chose 1950s-inspired Blanche lace wedding dress from my Heavenly Collection. In her own words…

"The search for the perfect dress took me all the way to London. I always knew I wanted a short 50s style dress because I’m only 5ft 2in. I just felt they suited me and I love the big skirt. I dragged my friend round lots of shops and the very last dress I tried on at 7pm in the evening was the one! 

Helena's studio at Heavenly Vintage Brides is bursting at the seams with the most vintage wedding dresses I have ever seen. Helena was amazing and made sure everything was just perfect for me. The gown I bought wasn’t vintage, it was one of her own designs and it was perfect."

Kathryn teamed her dress with pretty Rachel Simpson Eva shoes, and a neat birdcage veil. Her favourite colour is green (her engagement ring is an emerald of course!) and so all other accessories - from flowers to bridesmaid dresses - followed her pretty green colour theme...

And the theme followed through to the venue, Camp and Furnace - a giant industrial space in downtown Liverpool - with a 'picnic' lunch for sharing, delivered to the guests in baskets. 

Now let's end with a few words from Kathryn about her day…

"I loved the whole ceremony! walking down the aisle and seeing all my loved ones meant so much to me. Seeing my 91 year old Nan on the front row looking up at me that meant the world.

Your wedding day really is the best day of your life so cherish every single minute of it. Don’t be nervous because everyone who is there is there for you and loves you. During the wedding breakfast take a minute and sit back and have a good look around because it’s the only time you will get all the people you love in your life in one room. I just want to do it all again!"

For her August wedding, petite Becky chose a darling 1930s wedding dress in peach lace. The dress was so delicate and suited Becky to perfection. 

In Becky's words...

"Thank you so much for the lovely fun afternoon we had at your studio trying on dresses. It was just how I wanted to find my wedding dress!  

I loved gazing at the dress for ages before the day, and even more so wearing it on the day.  Thank you for helping me find my absolutely perfect dress!"

A Gypsy Vintage Wedding, Part 2.

Dear Reader,
Today I have more delicious Gypsy Wedding images, from the photo-shoot using my original vintage dresses...

After some research, the stylist / photographer team behind the shoot knew they needed an original Romany Gypsy wagon. It took some time to find the perfect one...

And luckily for them, they also found Walter - one of the most revered Gypsy Wagon Restorers. As well as loaning them this stunning black-and-gold caravan, Walter and his family guided them through all the details for the day. In Christian and Erica's words...

"Walter took us though to his barn, and it was an exciting moment to come face to face with what would become the centrepiece of our shoot - a gorgeous, original ‘Doors & Windows’ Romany caravan, hand-carved and covered in gold leaf.

We also took the opportunity to talk to Walter and his wife Mary about traditional gypsy weddings, and within minutes they’d found a fascinating old leather-bound album full of black and white family photos from gypsy weddings. And so we began to form a picture of what a REAL gypsy wedding would’ve looked like."

The results are lovely. So soft and romantic...

1970s tiered lace wedding dress: Gypsy-style Dress of the Week

Dear Reader, 

Hot on the heels of those pretty gypsy images, this beautiful original 1970s wedding dress has to be our Vintage Wedding Dress of the Week...

This is such a romantic look, and a really rare find. With its complexion-flattering cream lace, and off-the-shoulder styling with delicate ribbon straps, it perfectly suits a boho vintage-gypsy-style wedding.

It would look wonderful with a waist-enhancing sash trimmed in flowers. And as you can see above, it's equally fabulous worn on the shoulder for a bride who prefers a little more coverage. I'd love to see this dress accessorised with a flower crown, or perhaps with tumbling romantic tresses...

Gypsy Wedding, Vintage-style!

Dear Reader,
A little while ago I lent some of my original vintage wedding dresses for a photo shoot by Christian and Erica from Christian Ward Photography.

Their idea was to recreate a vintage gypsy wedding. Not the 'big fat gypsy wedding' kind, but something soft and romantic from days gone by - based on real Romany traditions and recommendations from real-life travellers...

The results are beautiful and inspiring...
